We are very excited to announce the the six books shortlisted for the Pushkin House Book Prize 2024. Titles on this year’s shortlist include insights into the experience of doctors and nurses in Stalin’s Gulag; the people, culture and history in the North Caucasus Republics; the politics of gender and sexuality in Russian popular culture; the rituals and communication of Nenets reindeer herders in the Russian Arctic; the realities of life in Russia told through the voices of those who are systematically oppressed; and the origins, course, and the already apparent and possible future consequences of the war in Ukraine.

We have put together new curated collections as a joint project between our public programming and bookshop, in the context of the discourses we are exploring at Pushkin House and in response to key debates taking place in the cultural and academic spheres.
