Come and celebrate the launch by Earth Recordings of 'Film Music’, a deluxe 3LP / 3CD box set of music by Mikael Tariverdiev, the composer of the soundtracks to the iconic Soviet films Goodbye Boys (До свидания, мальчики), Seventeen Moments of Spring (Семьнадцать мгновений весны) and The Irony of Fate (Ирония судьбы), the first major release of this work in the West. Stephen Coates and Alex Kan discuss Mikael’s life and work with live performances by Russian singer Daria Kulesh and pianist Marina Osman. On show will be a selection of film clips and many unseen images taken by photographer Paul Heartfield in the Tariverdiev apartment including Mikael’s own previously unseen shots of sets from various films he worked on.

Stephen Coates of the band The Real Tuesday Weld first heard the soundtrack to Goodbye Boys in a cafe in Moscow in 2011 - the beginning of a journey of discovery which led to him working with the composer's widow Vera Tariverdieva on this release: a selection of Tariverdiev's greatest tracks, including many previously unreleased versions,

Mikael Tariverdiev is remembered in Russia for his film and TV soundtracks to some of the most popular Soviet films and TV series, still aired regularly on national television.  He scored over 130 films and also wrote classical music for more than a hundred romances, ballets, operas and chamber vocal cycles, receiving many Soviet and international awards for his music.

Daria Kulesh - Russian-born but now settled near London - combines a "refined and cut glass crystal voice" with strong Russian heritage, conjuring a beguiling romanticism. Her debut solo album, Eternal Child' was described as "phenomenal" by FATEA Magazine and named 'Album of the Month' by FolkWords, among other accolades. "Haunting and enigmatic" (The Sunday Times)
