Talk: Michael Bourdeaux on Goskontsert and the State Censorship of Soviet Music

Michael Bourdeaux, a keen amateur musician, observed the nefarious workings of Goskontsert and its control of the Soviet musical scene while he was a member of the first-ever British Council year-long student exchange with the USSR 1959-60. His lecture, based on some personal experiences, will include some recorded musical examples.

The Rev. Canon Dr Michael Bourdeaux, a long-standing member of the Society, is the founder of Keston Institute and won the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion (the religious equivalent of a Nobel Prize) in 1984 for his work in the sphere of religious liberty.
