In a London sneak preview of a lecture to be given at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow in November, to celebrate what would have been Dmitry Prigov's 75th birthday, Sergey Chesnokov discusses the artistic principles of Moscow Conceptualism in Prigov's visual art and poetry. 

Culturologist Sergey Chesnokov was closely involved in the life of the artistic underground in Moscow in the 1970s-80s.  In this talk, as a long-standing friend of the iconic Dmitri Prigov (1940-2007), he examines the principles which informed Prigov's artistic activity, and puts the fate of the Russian language, at the time long violated by Soviet propaganda, in the spotlight. Prigov's fascinating philosophy of language was opposed not only to state ideology, but also to the ideas of oppositional cultural elites. Chesnokov's talk will be illustrated with a wide range of visual and textual examples.
