PUSHKIN HOUSE WINE CLUB: RUSSIANS IN AMERICA – AMERICAN WINE TASTING

PUSHKIN HOUSE WINE CLUB

RUSSIANS IN AMERICA – AMERICAN WINE TASTING

The tasting will feature, at least 6 wines from the wineries directly influenced by Russian emigres: wines from California, Washington, New York State and Oregon. In addition, someone will go home with a prize wine after winning the mini-quiz.

The Russian Revolution in 1917 changed the world. The old world was destroyed, many were forced to leave and sought a new life elsewhere. Some young, talented emigres influenced and changed the wine world.

The quality of wine production in California and Washington is widely attributed to the “Dean of American Winemaking”, Andre Tchelistcheff who was also responsible for creating some of the most iconic Italian wines. The wine world was reshaped thanks to his hard work and perseverance. Meanwhile, Konstantin Frank, a winemaker from Odessa, put New York State on the wine map where world-class wines are now produced. And Alexis Lichine, known as “the Pope of Wine”, helped to introduce new generations of Americans to wine through his books, amazing tasting ability and charm. He had a major influence on the production, marketing and sales of Bordeaux wine, and also on the palate of the best known figures in the wine world, such as Robert Parker.

The tasting will feature at least 6 wines from the wineries directly influenced by these men: wines from California, Washington, New York State and Oregon. As usual, someone will go home with a prize wine after winning the mini-quiz.
