Pushkin House is proud to present a programme of rarely performed Soviet music. Pietro Bonfilio, a winner of numerous international piano competitions, having toured extensively in Europe and Asia. He specialises in the music of Dmitri Kabalevsky, whose Third Sonata and Preludes have recently been recorded for the Piano Classics label. Pietro will introduce the composers and there will be an opportunity to meet him afterwards, as well as buy a signed copy of the CD.

Pietro Bonfilio, piano

PIETRO BONFILIO was Born in Tuscany (Italy) in 1990 graduated with honors at‘Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi’ in Milan under the guidance of M° Vincenzo Balzani. He completed a Master’s degree in performance with Distinction at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the guidance of M° Victor Sangiorgio. He performed in the USA’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York, New York University and Cornell University in Ithaca, in various venues in Sweden, Scotland (Stevenson Hall, Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow), Mexico (Centro Cultural Bicentenario, Mexico City), Cambodia (Phnom Penh Piano Festival Meta House) and Thailand (Bangkok Piano Festival, Siam Ratchada Auditorium). Pietro performs regularly in Milan, most notably at Teatro alla Scala, in the Salone Napoleonico of Palazzo Serbelloni, in the Royal Palace, in the Puccini Hall and in the Great Hall of Casa Verdi, in Villa Litta Borromeo Visconti for Società Umanitaria, in the Gaber Hall for the Società dei Concerti. He has played for the Fondazione Toscana Spettacoli, in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, at the International Festival C.I.M.A. in Tuscany, at Palazzo Albrizzi in Venice. Pietro’s collaborations with orchetras include Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra ‘Mihail Jora’in Bacau, Grosseto Symphony Orchestra and Reggio Calabria ‘Francesco Cilea’ Orchestra. Pietro is a winner of XXV Ibla Grand Prize competition (Ragusa, Italy), International competitions in Monterosa Kaway, Riviera della Versilia in Viareggio, Agimus in Florence, Riviera Etrusca in Livorno, Lissonum Young Performers in Milan, New Horizons in Arezzo. He was awarded the scholarship by the International Association of Richard Wagner for Bayreuth Festival 2014. In 2011 he recorded a recital for the national service Radio Classica, as part of their ‘The Pianist’ programme and in 2014 he played live for RadioRai3. Since 2012 is the artistic director of Morellino Classica Festival in Tuscany. His most recent achievement is the recording of Dmitry Kabalevky’s solo piano works for the Brilliant Classic label.
