In the beginning, eight thousand years ago, wine was made in qvevri, an egg-shaped earthenware vessel buried in the ground up to its neck in Georgia. At about the same time, or slightly later, amphoras were being used to make wine in Armenia. And now qvevri and amphoras are making a comeback. Similar wine-making techniques are being employed to produce some stunning wines, both in the Old World and in the New World.

We will explore ancient and modern wine-making techniques and taste wines from Georgia, Armenia, Spain, Italy and Australia made in qvevri, amphoras or in a similar style, and one of them is orange. As usual, someone will go home with a prize wine after winning the mini-quiz.
