Pushkin House Wine Club: RUSSIA AND WINE IN THE 21st CENTURY – MODERN DEVELOPMENTS

Russia has always been partial to good food and wine. In the 19th century the Russian nobility enjoyed the best the world could offer: Champagne Cristal, Lafite, Romanee-Conti, truffles, capon, oysters – and introduced to the world something of its own: elegant vodka, caviar and Service a la Russe. It also used to produce exquisite sweet wines in Crimea that to the world’s surprise is still outstanding after sitting in the bottle for more than 90 years.

One hundred years after the revolution what has changed? Have the old traditions been revived? Has Russia succeeded in reclaiming the status of the gourmand society it boasted about in the 19th century? How is Russia innovating and producing something outstanding of its own today?

Come and find out at our next tasting session on Thursday, the 17th May, 19.00-21.00. And as usual, someone will go home with a prize wine after winning the mini-quiz.
