Pushkin House Wine Club: PUSHKIN IN LOVE – VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL

Devoted to A.S. Pushkin’s Wedding - 18 February 1831

This year’s Valentine’s Day Wine Club will be devoted to Pushkin and his wife, Natalia Goncharova. We will revisit 19th century Russian high society, and the wines that Pushkin, the founder of modern Russian literature, may have enjoyed.

Pushkin devoted many pages of his prolific writing, and letters to his wife and friends, describing the treats he enjoyed throughout his life, especially his love of wine. Many of them contain precise details of what was eaten and drunk at a dinner or ball, so we can confidently recreate a picture of what these events were like.

So let’s take a peek into Pushkin’s world ten generations later and compare it with our own. The similarities and differences are fascinating.

Come to our next tasting and find out what it was like to live in style in Russia nearly 200 years ago. And as usual, someone will go home with a prize wine after winning the mini-quiz.
