Community Mapping Workshops for Ukrainians in London

  • 5a Bloomsbury Square London WC1A 2TA United Kingdom (map)

This participatory mapping workshop will be held at Pushkin House in February as part of the project with LivingMaps network, Every Dog is a Lion in its Home, which provides a platform for Ukrainian communities in London and beyond to discover and establish personal geographies of place, identity and belonging.

The workshop is open to any Ukrainians living in the UK. No special skill or experience is necessary, and we aim to accommodate any access requirements where possible.

PROGRAMME

Trails, tracks, traces: making personal maps with the Demolition Project

This workshop will explore sense and memory in the city, looking at ways to make creative and personal maps that draw on sights, sounds, smells and textures, and exploring how these sensory experiences work with recollection and emotions.

Participants will try out ways to make mental maps of spaces, explore their awareness of place through sensory and observation exercises, and find and share personal meanings and memories of places – both the familiar and the unfamiliar. We'll make routes and maps from drawings, photos, notes, and sound recordings, and there will be time to reflect on and share our experiences.
