Born in 1987 in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, Yulia gave her debut performance aged 7, performing Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in F minor with the Rostov State Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has performed extensively in Europe and Asia.
Since her first major competition win in Poland, aged 9, Yulia has won first prize in piano competitions in Paris, Andorra, Kiev, Kharkov and St. Petersburg. After winning the first prize and gold medal in the junior section of the 2004 Tchaikovsky International Competition, Yulia appeared as concerto soloist in Moscow, Dubrovnik, Busan, Tokyo, Berlin, and London. Yulia performed at Wigmore Hall in London, Bunka Kaikan Hall Tokyo, Grand Hall of Moscow Conservatoire and many other prestigious venues.
Yulia’s debut CD recording - of the solo piano works of Badarzewska – was made by King Records in Japan in 2007 and a subsequent documentary was made by the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). Yulia’s solo CD of Russian Music recorded by Champs Hill records was released worldwide in May 2014.
As well as concerto performances with the Hiroshima Symphony, Russian Symphony Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic, Cologne Chamber Symphony Orchestra, Basingstoke Symphony Orchestras, Yulia appeared several times as concerto soloist in the Philharmonie, Berlin and Big Hall of the Moscow’s Conservatory.
Yulia studied in Rostov and Moscow with Naum Shtarkman before moving to Berlin in 2006 to study with Professor Klaus Hellwig at the Universität der Künste. She holds Master of Music degree (Distinction) from the Royal College of Music in London where she studied with Dmitri Alexeev. In 2013 Yulia became the Mills Williams Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music.
In addition to her degrees, Yulia also was taught by Mstislav Rostrpovich, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Paul Badura-Skoda, and Liliya Zilberstein. Yulia has received awards from the Menuhin and Hindemith Foundations in Germany, Zetland Foundation in the UK and the Mstislav Rostropovitch Foundation in Russia.
