The dramatic stories of four World War II Songs which span time and space. These stories begin in different countries and different centuries and carry on for a long time after Victory Day, right up to the 21st Century. In addition to these Songs, three more musical pieces will be performed. These are the favourite dances of the 19th and first half of the 20th Century – a mazurka, tango and waltz composed by the respective masters of each style. We will talk about nine of the people who are known to have contributed to the creation of the Songs. In reality, there were more – they are truly 'the unknown soldiers'.
The music will be provided by Nadia Giliova (piano) and Lila Moshtael (vocals). Alla Gelich will read four poems in Russian. The text of the songs, in Russian and English, will be available. David Brummell will introduce the evening and provide the accompanying narrative.
This is a Pushkin Club event and all are welcome.
