Socials at Pushkin House: September 2023, Hosted by Katya Granova

  • 5a Bloomsbury Square London London, England, United Kingdom (map)

Join us on Thursday 7 September for the next Social at Pushkin House. Taking place on the first Thursday of each month at our bar, the Socials are hosted by prominent cultural figures, activists, authors and others, who will bring you a varied and engaging evening. Our September Social is led by Katya Granova: artist, painter and activist creating complex large-scale paintings contesting our ideas of memory and history.

Katya writes: “My practice is structured around the existential experience of the national past and I employ the medium of painting as a vehicle to access it on the material level. I use found old photographs, which I enlarge and transfer onto canvas to paint over them, speculatively incorporating my presence in those moments from the unapproachable past.

During the event Katya invites members of the audience to engage in her performative practice via sharing some family stories or legends, grounded in the distant past, in exchange for the little artworks she will be creating during each of these one-to-one sessions.

The bar opens at 6pm with happy hour on all cocktails till 7:30pm and 50% discount all evening for Friends of Pushkin House.

Event is open to all but registration is required.
